Estate Jewelry Can Have Great Value

Linda was the type of person that always had to buy everything new. She didn’t accept hand-me-down clothing or anything that was previously owned or even purchased by someone else. She believed that the best things came in new packages. She found out later that her train of thought may not exactly be true all of the time.

“I love your necklace Patrice, where did you get it from?” Linda asked her best friend.

Patrice looked down at here necklace and smiled.

“I’m glad you like it,” she said. “It’s a piece of estate jewelry that I purchased from the jeweler down the street.”

“What is estate jewelry?” asked Linda. “I’ve never heard of that.”

“It just means that it was once owned by someone else,” said Patrice.

Linda turned up her nose.

“Well, now that you say that, I don’t think it’s all that great,” she said. “I’d rather have a necklace that I was the first person to wear.”

Patrice became slightly offended.

“That’s kind of shallow Linda,” she said. “It’s beautiful and I actually saved a lot of money by purchasing it.”

“Well, if you say so,” said Linda sarcastically.

About a week later, Patrice decided to invite Linda to the store to let her see the estate jewelry for herself.

“You are going to love it and I’m sure you will find something that you like,” said Patrice.

They walked into the store and one of the employees came up to them.

“Do, you ladies need some help?” they asked.

“Yes, we are looking for some estate jewelry,” said Patrice.

Once they got to the area to look at the jewelry, Linda began to act standoffish.

“What’s wrong, Linda?” asked Patrice. “I know you see all of these beautiful pieces.”

“Yeah, I know Patrice they’re beautiful, but I just can’t buy something that someone else had,” she said. “It just makes me feel icky. I’m going to go over into the new jewelry section.”

Patrice shook her head in disappointment. She finally gave up her endeavor of trying to convince her best friend that pre-owned items can be valuable. About a month had passed and Linda was sitting at home watching television, when she got a call from Patrice.

“Linda, you will not believe this,” she exclaimed.

“What is it?” Linda asked. “Is something wrong?”

Patrice took a few deep breathes as she tried to keep her composure.

“Do you remember the necklace I bought a while back?” she asked.

“Yes, what about it?” asked Linda.

“Well, I just found out that it used to be owned by this rich woman from the South and it’s worth 2 million dollars,” screamed Patrice as she began jumping up and down with excitement.

Linda stood in shock. She didn’t know whether to feel happy, disappointed or embarrassed.
