Getting Ready for Your Hearing Test

The first step for anybody suffering from hearing loss is to schedule a free, comprehensive hearing test at a Miracle-Ear hearing center. Debbi Bleich has worked her way up through the hearing aid business over the past two decades and owns a Miracle-Ear center in Dunkirk, NY. There can be many reasons why hearing loss affects a particular patient, but the fact remains that most people delay getting tested for their hearing levels for years at a time. This can have seriously detrimental effects on their lives.

When people can’t follow the conversations of their loved ones anymore, it usually makes them withdraw from the things and experiences that used to bring them so much joy. This withdrawal from social situations can bring about depression or anxiety. It can also lead to stress between spouses. In addition, even though hearing loss is associated with the Baby Boom generation, it actually affects more people who are still working age. Hearing loss can actually affect the earning potential of a worker. Hearing loss can also be progressive, which means that the longer patients wait to address the issue, the worse their hearing can become. Both the severity and length of time a patient suffers hearing loss can determine how effective hearing aids will be, so it’s imperative not to put off getting help as soon as you need it.

One thing to remember about a Miracle-Ear hearing test is that it’s highly advised you bring a companion with you. This person should be your spouse or maybe a child or close friend. In other words, it should someone with whom you converse daily and whose voice you intimately know. The companions play a big role at the beginning of test, which includes an in depth interview by one of the hearing specialists. During this interview, the specialists will ask the patients about their hearing loss and how it’s affected their lives and the lives of their loved ones. Many times, the patients underestimate the severity of their hearing loss or the effects of that impairment on their own and their loved ones’ lives. The companions can provided a much needed reality check. The companions will also lend their voices to a number of tests during the exam.

People in the later 50’s or early 60’s should be getting their hearing tested once a year. But it’s important to remember that hearing loss can affect men and women of all ages. Make time to get a hearing test at the first moment you realize you’re hearing is diminished.
