Moving Efficiently: Tips to Make Your Move Easy

Whether it’s down the street or across the country, moving is a stressful process. Therefore, working to ensure your move is an efficient one will help to cut down on the stress involved. James Height, Grosse Pointe mover and owner of Designed to Move, provides tips to make your move go as smoothly as possible.

Organization will help to make your move happen quickly and efficiently. Height recommends having a “game plan” established prior to the moving day. This will include knowing where items will be going once they make it to your new home. This holds especially true for large items that may be difficult to move once the Grosse Pointe movers leave; therefore, Height recommends having the “interior decorating” already configured.

To easily organize your move, Height has a simple tip that will save you time and energy. He recommends that when moving to color coordinate the rooms at the new home. This can easily be done with the use of colored sticky-notes. For instance, the master bedroom in your new home may be color coordinated with a blue note. All items you wish to have placed into that room will then be marked with the same blue note. To save from having to explain which room may be a guest room, placing a sticker on the door that corresponds to the stickers on the boxes will make it easy for the Grosse Pointe movers to identify which room to take items to. “The less we have to ask the customer where items go, the quicker the process will be,” says Height.

Packing items into boxes in a safe and secure manner is especially important and will help to ensure your items arrive at their new home in good shape. According to Height, the more packing paper, Styrofoam, or bubble wrap the better. Since packing materials can be expensive, Height has witnessed his customers skimping on these items. But, he warns, without sufficient packing materials, you risk damaging your items.

Bubble wrap is best for the normal consumer. Professional packers, due to their experience, are able to use packing tape and paper sufficiently to ensure a safe transport. But Height recommends that customers packing away their own items use bubble wrap. The bubble wrap will add extra protection. “There is no such thing as over-doing it,” Height adds, when it comes to securing your belongings.

Beyond having your items packed away correctly, one of the greatest benefits to hiring Grosse Pointe movers for your move is that it will save you from back-breaking work. Trained moving professionals know how to safely lift heavy items and have tools at their disposal to make the job easier. They are also trained to know how best to pack your items into trucks, which will help ensure their safe delivery to your new home. “Everything should arrive just as it left,” says Height.
